We are very excited to start sharing details with you about this year's Passports With Purpose Fundraiser. Yes, that's right,
after last year's successful effort, we're going to do it again!
We are supporting an amazing charity this year, and we hope that you will share our enthusiasm about their work. American Assistance for Cambodia (AAfC) is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to improving opportunities for the youth and rural poor in Cambodia. Through their rural schools project, we can build a school in rural Cambodia this year!
Because AAfC has a donor to pay 1/2 the cost of building a school, the amount we need to raise is just $13,000! That is a lot of money, but given our success last year (we raised $7400 in just a few short weeks) we believe it is totally achievable with your help.
Why a school?
One of the things I was struck by on my own visit to Cambodia was the strong spirit of hope, and the desire to rebuild both at a personal level and a national level, the intellectual society and successful economy that had been destroyed by the Khmer Rouge in the late '70s. English language and computer schools seemed to be down every alleyway in Phnom Penh. Parents scrimped to sign young children up for lessons in English and computers and to learn the cultural arts that were all but lost during the Khmer Rouge Regime.
In
rural areas, the sense of hope and the desire to rebuild might be just
as strong, but the options are more limited. This year Passports with
Purpose will establish a school in a rural area whose children
have been deprived from any educational facilities. A school provides
a much needed alternative to poverty or sex trafficking.

How Does it Work?
Last year, travel bloggers around the world procured prizes and wrote about them on their blogs. Donors had the opportunity to enter to win the prizes, with each $10 donated to charity giving them one chance to win a prize.
The basics of this year's effort will remain unchanged. Like last year, we hope that each of you will procure a prize, and write about it on your blog. Like last year, we hope that you will help spread the word about PwP among your personal networks, your readers and your social media contacts. Like last year, we hope that this effort will not only raise money for a very worthy charity, but also help develop a stronger sense of community among travel bloggers, and demonstrate the effect we can have when we work together.
What can I do now?

- If you plan to procure a prize, you can start now. Prizes do best if they have your wholehearted endorsement, so please plan to approach only companies whose products you love, and preferably only companies who you have worked with before. We learned a lot about which prizes raised the most money last year, so we have some guidelines that your prize must meet this year
- Be prepared to post about your prize on November 30th, and let us know where to find your post by filling out this form
